Mr. R. G. Smith, 62, of Waycross, died suddenly at home on Monday (July 13, 2009).
R. G. was born November 22, 1946, in Waycross. He lived throughout the Southeast until his retirement from Georgia Pacific Corporation when he returned to Waycross. He spent his retirement enjoying the things he loved – gardening, woodworking, barbequing and caring for his parents and family at large.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and Rufus Smith; his son, Billy Smith; and one sister, Christine Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughters, Mary Ann Smith-Janas (husband Mike Janas) of Birmingham, AL, and Jessica Hatch (husband Joey) of Cross City, FL; his brother, John Smith (wife Cathy) of Keystone Heights, FL; sisters, Joey Boyd (husband Jimmy) of Waycross, Linda Hamilton (husband Jackie) of Bickley, Clarice Bishop (husband Elwood) of Bickley, Ann Smith (husband Roger) of Jonesboro, Judy Parramore (husband Steve) of Pelham, and Kay Belcher-Hickox (husband Bryant) of Waycross; brother-in-law, Cliff Adams of Bickley; grandchildren, Sam Janas, Lily Janas and Molly Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday (June 16, 2009) at Elbethel Church in Waycross with Rev. Ken Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 p. m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Music Funeral Home.
