Obituary

Mrs. Mollie Bennett Shuman, 95, died Sunday (February 22, 2015) at Hospice House Satilla following an extended illness.

She was a native of Wayne County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Y. Shuman; her parents, Wes B. Bennett, Sr. and Mary Lucille Scott Bennett; four sisters, Theo Mayers, Hazel Wray, Laurie Wiggins and Nell Poppell and two brothers, Elmo Bennett and Jerry Bennett.

Mrs. Shuman was a member of Central Baptist Church for many years until she helped organize and establish a mission church Morton Ave. Baptist Church. Morton Ave. Baptist Church moved and changed it's name to Parkway Baptist Church. She served as sunday school teacher, nursery worker, children's church director, led mission programs, visitation and was church secretary. Because of falling health, she could no longer attend church, she continued as a prayer warrior and was a supporter of her church.

Mrs. Shuman grew up in Screven and was very active in sports at Screven High School. After marriage she lived in Waycross for over 70 years. She participated in PTA's and sports of her four children. Later her grandchildren enjoyed her involment in their lives. Her last few years, she was able to be cared for at her home by family members with the help of loving caregivers.

Survivors include two daughters, Lavon Shuman Boatright (her late husband, James) of Lilburn, Ga, Linda F. Shuman Edwards (husband Talmadge) of Waycross; two sons, Lowell E. Shuman (wife Sandra) of Waycross, Larry W. Shuman (wife Sue) of Jesup, GA; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and 1 on the way; a brother, Wes B."Junior" Bennett of Screven, GA and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday (February 26, 2015) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 6 until 8.
