Mrs. Maggie Lee Conley Matthews, 95, died suddenly Thursday (May 31, 2007) at the Satilla Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Charlton County and resided in Jacksonville, FL for thirty years before moving to Waycross in 1996. She was the wife of the late William Rodes Matthews and the daughter of the late John Washington Conley and Nora Bell Griffin Conley. A sister, Rosa Mae Heape, preceded her in death. She retired from the King Edwards Cigar Manufactures and was a member of Deenwood Baptist Church. She had worked with the American Heart Association, Cancer Society and March of Dimes.
The survivors include her son, Joseph Eugene Dukes of Waycross; a sister, Edna Johnson of Waycross; two brothers, Charles Owen Conley of St. Marys and Nolan Edward Conley of Albany; three grandchildren; one great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday (June 8, 2007) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will be in the New Home Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Offerman. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
