Mr. Lou Eyerly, 75, died Thursday (May 30, 2013) at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville following a long illness.
He was a native of Baltimore, MD but had lived in Waycross for the past 24 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Eyerly and Marie Chancey Eyerly.
He was a retired Lt. Commander with the U.S. Navy and had served for 28 years. He was on submarine duty and served during the Vietnam War. He was an employee of the United Way in Camden County for 13 years. He was an avid photographer and was a member of the Rotary International and the Kings Bay Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Tanner Eyerly of Dixie Union; two daughters, Michele Eyerly of Los Angeles, CA, Samantha Burrell (husband Cary) of Hoboken; a son, Craig Eyerly (wife Laura) of Corpus Christi, TX; three grandchildren, Gavin Eyerly, Abby Eyerly and Rusty Burrell; a step son, Justin Bennett (wife Jessica) of Dixie Union; two step grandchildren, Hunter Bennett and Lexy Bennett; a sister, Susan Harrison (husband Paul) of MD; nieces and nephew, Rene and Karen Eyerly, Shannon and Butch Harrison; special friend, Jimmy Dean of Dixie Union; and two cats, Tommy and Blackie.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (June 1, 2013) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday night from 6 until 8. The Kings Bay Rotary Club and the Waycross Rotary Club are asked to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 1:40 p.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.
