Obituary

Mr. John Nicholas Summerlin, 75, died Saturday morning (March 23, 2019) at his residence in Patterson following an extended illness.

He was born in Waycross and had lived most of his life there. He was a former boilermaker with CSX Railroad and a member of Hebardville Baptist Church. He also served in the Georgia National Guard. He enjoyed collecting antiques and was affectionately known as the junk hunter.

Mr. Summerlin was a son of the late Charles Dewitt Summerlin, Sr. and America Anderson Summerlin.

He is survived by his three daughters, Rebecca Collins of Patterson, Jennifer Dowling (Chris) of Hoboken, and Nikki Day (Connie Windham) of Blackshear; six grandchildren, Toby Jones (Heather) of San Antonio, TX, Selby Collins (Dianna) of Patterson, Kyleigh Jones of Patterson, Jensie Sermons (Ryan) of Alma, Chase Day of White Cloud, MI, and Logan Day of Blackshear; six great grandchildren, MaKenzie Jones, Tyler Jones, Spencer Britt, Jonesey Sermons, Addison Day, and Lee Day; a brother, Charles D. Summerlin, Jr. (Glenda) of Waycross; a sister, June Sweat (Bobby) of Gainesville, GA; a nephew, Mike Sweat (Kristie) of Buford, GA; and a niece, Amy Worthington (Sam) of Waycross.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday (March 28, 2019) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday night at the funeral home from 5 until 7 o’clock.
