Mr. James Edward Moore, 65, passed away suddenly Thursday evening (April 4, 2019) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross surrounded by friends and family.

He was born in Jesup but was raised in Fitzgerald before making his home in Waycross in the early 1970’s. He was a former radio broadcaster with WACL and WAYX. He was also formerly employed with PTI Transport for CSX Railroad and was an ordained minister with Eagles Flight Ministries as the current worship and praise leader.

Mr. Moore led devotion on Thursday morning at Jerry J’s in Waycross called the Men’s Prayer Breakfast and also started Fishers of Men, an outreach ministry held at various churches in the area. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed playing music especially the piano. He was a true man of God who loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Moore was a son of the late James Monroe Moore and Iris Moody Moore. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mattie Moody.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sylvia Smith Moore of Waycross; a son, James “Jamey” Moore of Waycross; a daughter, Terri Moore Howard (Keith) of Blackshear; two grandchildren, Leanna Nicole Howard and Benjamin Keith Howard, Jr. both of Blackshear; a sister, Shirley Moore Tippins (Lamar) of Patterson; an aunt, Josephine Gibson (Jim) of Hortense; two uncles, Tony Moore (Ressie) of Dothan, AL and Kittly Moody of Waynesville; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (April 7, 2019) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hortense Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Saturday evening at the funeral home from 5 until 7 o’clock.

The family requests the Fishers of Men and the Thursday morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast groups to meet at the funeral on Sunday by 1:40 p.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.
