Mr. Jack Earl Youngblood, 80, died early Monday morning (May 27, 2013) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following an extended illness.
He was a native of Milledgeville, but prior to moving to Waycross in 2002, he resided on St. Simon's Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Evans Youngblood and Mattie Leone Vincent Youngblood; three brothers, Marion Youngblood, Louie Youngblood and Robert Youngblood; and one granddaughter, Ashley Ellis.
Mr. Youngblood retired as a district manager for Delta Life Insurance Company and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Hustler's Sunday School Class.
As an avid sports fan, his passion was golf, tennis and running. In 1952, he was an all-letterman at the University of Georgia and played basketball with the Georgia Senior Olympics.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Swicord Youngblood of Waycross; his three children, Tammy Youngblood Davis (Tony) of Milledgeville, Jack Earl Youngblood, Jr. (Ann) of Ellabelle, Debbie Youngblood Ellis of Woodstock; two step children, Gina Alday Wooten (Lynn) of Waycross, Joe Michael Alday (Vicky) of St. Simons Island; two grandchildren, Brittany Ellis and Jennifer Ellis both of Woodstock; four step grandchildren, Derek Wooten (Rebecca) of Valdosta, Laura Wooten Fletcher of Cummings, Joseph Michael Alday and Victoria Powell Alday both of St. Simons Island; three step great grandchildren, Nancy Piper Fletcher and Lyndon Wayatt Fletcher both of Cummings, Sean Bentley Alday of Waycross; and he had some dogs that were very special to his life.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (May 30, 2013) at First Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery in Milledgeville. The family will be receiving friends at First Baptist Church from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday.
