Obituary

Late Tuesday night, October 19, 2010 Betty Gamage Smith went to meet her Savior at the age of 92.

She was born in Waresboro, Georgia April 5, 1918 to the late Cleve Thomas and Amanda Beverly Thomas, and she lived there with her family until the age of 16 when she moved to Waycross, Georgia with her late husband Thomas B. Gamage. There she owned and operated Gamage Grocery until 1969 where she blessed many local pastors and families in the community. They were married for 35 years until his passing in 1969. After the closing of her store she worked at Baptist Village until she retired at the age of 62. She also remarried in 1974 to David J. Smith. They were married for 19 years until his passing in 1993.

She was also a member of Crossview Church of God of Prophecy for 80 years. She served as the clerk, a Sunday school teacher, and lay member through out her years of membership.

She leaves behind her three children Annette Saxon (husband Sonny) of Waycross, GA, Franklin Gamage (wife Vonice) of Waycross, GA, and Janice Gamage Slater (husband Ronnie deceased) of Statesboro, GA. She also leaves behind her remaining grandchildren Robert Saxon (wife Bonnie) of Savannah, GA, Thomas M. Saxon (wife Kellie) of Waycross, GA, Frankie Gamage (wife Lawana) of Waycross, GA, Brian Saxon of Waycross, GA, Wayne Gamage and Michelle Chauncey (husband Travis) of Valdosta, GA. She leaves twenty great-grandchildren, nine great great-grandchildren and other extended family members as well.

Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She was always giving and helping those in need. She will be loved forever. All of her family and friends will miss her until we meet again in our eternal home.

The viewing will be held Thursday night from 6 pm to 8 pm at Music Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at Crossview Church of God of Prophecy at 11 am Friday (October 22, 2010) with the burial service to follow at Oakland Cemetery. All family and friends are invited to attend to celebrate the life of this wonderful woman.
